What a great post!!! I love your work and that you share it with the Substack universe, and your "5 Major Life Lessons" resonated a million per cent. This post encouraged me to keep on keepin on, in a cheerleader-ly kind of way. 😄
So many wonderful ideas and concepts. And I love your bookshelf.
I believe that I should sketch AND journal every day but I struggle with both so I combined them by doing quick sketches of everyday objects like potted plants and views of my yard, then I write in the spaces around the sketch.
(I love Julia Cameron but three pages of handwriting is a little too much for me)
Happy Substack Birthday! Isn't it fun to look back over the past year and take note of all you've accomplished? Love it. And thank you for sharing your beautiful, little watercolors on Notes. It gives me hope.
That made me giggle!! Loved your website…I was wondering several weeks ago “who is Maureen?” when you posted that you would be one of the “Women in Aquaculture” presenters. You are so diverse I can’t stand it! 🤗 🥰
Congratulations Ms. Kitty Lover Rockwell on your one year anniversary. Mother Nature surely holds you high above most humans for seeing and sharing her beauty. You’ve really grown as a woman which is so much more than I can say for myself. Please take care of your health and your family, for time passes so quickly. Just ask Mother Nature.
Congratulations on these wonderful accomplishments! I love your artwork, you already know that. ☺️ I am so glad you decided to start sharing your art on Substack and it has been beautiful to watch all your different collections and assorted styles of artwork unfold. You're awesome and I can't imagine anything except increasing success for you, my dear! I feel you on the paper journals myself. I have two beautiful ones and only one has a few pages of writing in it. Weird,I know, since I'm a writer at heart, but I've always had a hard time maintaining a physical journal even though it would be helpful I'm sure. Either way, you're leaving your legacy, whether it be in words on paper or through the sharing of your amazing talented paintings. Thanks for adding some more beauty into the world K.L. ❤️❤️❤️
I have been enjoying reading your tutorials and truly believe they are a value add to a watercolor artist of any skill level. Thank you for sharing your expertise!!
What a great reminder just to do. Whether it's painting, writing, knitting, just do it. I've started journals as well without much luck quite like you. I don't do it anymore but found entering a few short notes on a calendar worked for me. What was the weather for the day, mood, what did I do, or see, etc. It worked, at least for me, because it was short, and didn't take a lot of time. Yet it was enough to look at later and remind me about that day.
I abhor, intensely dislike and absolutely loathe journaling. I will. not. journal. Can't make me. (Yes, I'm talking to YOU Yoga Trainings!). But the notebooks are sooooo pretty! Beautiful covers, clean crisp pages, straight lines all make my heart sing! It's like heart art on a shelf. :)
And speaking of yoga, I tell my classes - let go of expectations, this isn't a competition and listen (to your body). Life lessons we can all use reminders of!
Your resistance to journal screams “creative block” and you should explore that!! 🤭 Just kidding…you KNOW I understand completely. Hugs to you on a Tuesday morning!!
Thanks for sharing your art and this post with us😇
Thanks for reading Vanessa!

That is a great idea! Making it work for you is important, otherwise it becomes a chore.
